X-O Manowar: Commander Trill Issue 0 Review With Spoilers

Spoiler Warning!

The narrative becomes clunky at times, especially when the term "soldier commander" is used. Also the narrative fails to land a good ending with the reveal that the Vine High Priest is just narrating in his own mind. It would have been better if he used the hive mind to talk to either Aric or the other Vine. Another puzzling element is how the priest knows so much about Trill's parents?

On the plus side the issue does provide us with with excellent art and an interesting enough story. Arguably the best parts are probably those that readers of the original incarnation of the Valiant universe will appreciate. Such as the reasoning for why Aric was accepted by the armor without a control ring (original Valiant device), and cameo of the spider aliens.

My verdict: I recommend this issue for those familiar with the original version of Aric and those who are regular readers of the current series. However I do not recommend this as a jumping on point.
