Hellboy And The B.P.R.D.: 1953 Beyond The Fences Issue 1 Review With Spoilers

Warning Of Spoilers!

The David Mack variant cover is fine in design, but too high concept in the art's text. This is partly because one can read the text as many times as they want too, and yet still be unsure of the message. Yes, long-time readers may find it simplistic, but those who are not hardcore fans will feel lost. Also unlike the main cover by Paolo Rivera it has nothing to do with the story.

As for the lettering and coloring they are superbly done. While the interior art by Paolo and Joe Rivera is almost as masterful as Mike Mignola. So congrats on that guys! Finally the writing by Mignola and Chris Roberson stronger shows how the average Post-World War 2 American (or at least a lot of them) tried to cling to a false idea of normalization and "don't be different."

  My Verdict: Highly Recommended!
